- Who is Harry Potter?
- Harry Potter is an excellent and popular series of fantasy novels written by J. K. Rowling. The books tell the story of a young wizard, Harry Potter, and his friends, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The narrative follows Harry's epic struggle against his antagonist, Lord Voldemort, an evil wizard. The series was made into a number of very good films, all hugely popular.
Originally aimed at adolescents, the novels and movies are compelling and entertaining for teenagers and adults as well. We found the books to be good reads, the movies to be well worth watching. Some parents may be a bit dismayed at the themes of magic and sorcery; however, all of them are clearly fantasies in the same manner as The Wizard of Oz, Grimm's Fairy Tales, Peter Pan, Walt Disney and so many other children's fantasy stories. Ms. Rowling identifies as a Christian and does not believe in magic. Many, many kids learned to read (as in extended reading for pleasure) with these, something they might not do with school reading assignments. We are forever grateful to J. K. Rowling for having written them. The movies do justice to the books and are also recommended.
